Pack List:Tent (if needed) Tramping pack/s – big/day pack and padlocks (if needed) Waterproof rain jacket Waterproof over trousers Cap Walking pole Pack cover Boots and putties/gaiters Tramping socks x 2 for 4 days – wash and dry on back of pack when walking Shoulders pads (if needed) Drinking Bladder or Water bottle Sleeping bag Bed roll (cover in plastic) Small pillow (if needed) Hut shoes – jandals are good Torch and/or headlight Book – FMC Bulletin – Readers Digest – Crosswords and pen Hutt Pass or Hutt tickets Hikers wool (if needed) Plastics bags for sitting on, dirty washing, dirty boots Sunglasses and normal glasses (if needed) Cell phone (battery charged) Camera (battery charged) Maps, compass, itinerary, travel doc’s, driver’s licence, credit cards, money etc Stove, billy and gas (cannot take gas bottle when flying) and matches Plate mug knife fork and spoon Tea towel, scrubber, cloth, detergent Soap for washing clothes or body Thin clothes-line and pegs Warm and cool clothing Togs Towel “Wet Ones” (if you prefer to soap) Tissues (lots as can use as toilet paper also) Toiletries/makeup – plus comb/brush Small mirror if a contact lens wearer – spare lens and cleanser Sun tan lotion Insect repellent Medications including anti-histamines First aid – plasters etc And….. Suggested Food Ideas: |
Breakfast:Favourite cereal (muesli, Weetbix or porridge) – top up with chopped raisins, dried apricots, other dried fruit, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds etc and add dried milk powder in zip lock bag (first day perhaps take a banana to cut into this). Just add boiling waterTea bags, coffee (cappuccino is nice) milo (in zip lock bag – include milk powder), cold drink mix I think bread and spread is weighty – have a large serving cereal instead |
Lunch:Cabin bread/spicy pita/roti bread Marmite (in small “hotel” containers) or other spreads Tomatoes (can carry in egg carton fastened with rubber band) Cheese slices Hard boiled egg/s (for first couple of days) Salami Sliced biltong Thinly sliced carrot sticks (in zip lock in little water) Cucumber Fruit straps (can buy them in vege section at Supermarket) |
Nibbles during the day:Scroggin Chocolate Muesli bars Barley sugars Ginger biscuits Pre-dinner:Instant soup or 2 minute Noodles and cabin bread Herbal Tea/coffee/tea Wine or Spirits (mixed with Tang orange) or Port (decant into wine bag) Dinner:Back Country dehydrated meals “Instant” Macaroni Cheese and salami or bacon Dehydrated vegetables or dehydrated stir fry vegetables Dehydrated mince and add spices, sauces, etc Boil in a bag rice Beef stir fry (first night) and satay sauce mix Sun dried tomatoes in zip lock (probably two bags!) /Olives Pasta Rice risotto meals Instant potato and gravy Sardines and tuna/salmon Back Country desserts Jelly or custard and soaked dry fruit Dried yoghurt mix and instant pudding Chocolate After Dinner:Milo and marshmallows |
