Colonial Knob – Sunday, 23 July 2017

The Colonial Knob walk was attended by 9 walkers.  We met at the car park off Rahia Street in Porirua to begin the walk.  The track was firstly through a Nikau and fern bush along an easy track.  Then we progressed to steps (lots of steps), which got our bodies warmed up on a cooler winter morning.  We came out of the bush onto the top tracks to see the great views awaiting us there.  We took a brief breather beside a sheltered rock, and then progressed up to the look out point (360 views here) for another quick stop.  The wind, even though not strong, was bitterly cold there so we moved along the track further to sit outside the fence, overlooking the valley and the sea with great views of Mana and Kapiti Island.  The day was not quite clear enough to see Mt Taranaki, but we could make out the South Island.  After this lunch break we rambled over the farmland down to the car park again.  We slid and skidded down through the paddocks, then through some bush again with a quick stop at a pretty reservoir, where we enjoyed the sunshine and back to the cars by about 2pm.  Coffee followed at Mitre 10.  A great day out and 11,000 steps were recorded for each person.
